Havdalá, saying goodbye to Shabbat
Through the Havdalah ceremony we transfer the spiritual energy of Shabbat consciousness to the week.
This is manifested in the blessing of Havdalah, when we distinguish the sacred from the profane and the seventh day from the six days of the week.
This discrimination, while highlighting the differences between the sacred and the mundane, is the conduit through which the sanctity and higher consciousness of Shabbat are imparted to the days of the week.
The other elements of the Havdalah ceremony, "the blessing over the wine, the spices, and the fire," are designed to carry over into the days of the coming week the virtual rectifications generated by Shabbat.
And this is also the reason for the meal that accompanies the departure of the Shabbat queen called "Melave Malka"
(accompaniment or farewell of the queen) being this the fourth meal of Shabbat and the first of the new week, it shares the sacred and the profane and can transform our eating into a conscious act of the mind and soul.
We will continue...
