The Hebrew month of AV

The Hebrew month of AV

Jodesh Tov!

Today, as the stars fall, we will welcome the new Hebrew month of "Av," which is the fifth month of the year, counting from the month of Nisan.
The Torah refers to that month in this way: ''And Aharon HaKohén ascended Mount Hor by the commandment of HaShem, and died there in the fortieth year, after the children of Israel came out of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month' (Bamidvar-Numbers 33:38)

The name Av is of Babylonian origin. This is also called "Menachem Av" (Consuelo de Av) In allusion to the comfort we have been waiting for and hoping for since the tragedies that befell us this month, for in the future the Holy One, blessed be He!, will turn this day into one of rejoicing and celebration! (Lamentations 1:15)

Rosh Chodesh Av is observed as Taanit Tzadikim, "A fast in memory of the Righteous," because on this date Aharon HaKohen (Aharon, brother of Moses) died. Although fasting is not required on Rosh Chodesh, some observe this custom in commemoration of the death of Aharon HaKohen.

As we know, because of the misfortunes that happened this month, we limit our rejoicing to the point of avoiding any situation that could lead us to rejoice even on the 9th of Av, "Tisha v'Av" the day of the destruction of our Holy Great Temple, a day of fasting.

We wish you a Happy Chodesh Tov and hope that we will see the reconstruction of the Great Temple of Jerusalem very soon and in our days!
